sibling doula support

Our Sibling doulas in offer prenatal visit to help each family go over their ideal labor care plan for their children. The doula will go over your child’s care routines, favorite activies, foods they enjoy and any other important details you’d like to share.

If requested, the doula can help your children prepare to be a big sister and/or brother by reading books, watching videos, playing games and practicing ways to support mama in labor or some baby care basics!

She will make an effort to build a relationship with your kiddos, so they are comfortable and feel safe and connected before she joins them during your labor.

on-call childcare for hospital & birth center births near portland oregon

If you are birthing at a local hospital or birth center, your sibling doula will be on-call to provide childcare during the 3-5 weeks surrounding your due date. Once you call them, they will come to your home as soon as possible to provide care of your older children.

They will use your sibling birth action plan to create a fun, safe and loving atmosphere for your kiddos while you are in labor. Sibling doula packages are often a 12-48 hour package and they will stay with your children until you or your partner are back home.

Sibling doulas often offer unique activities for the children during this time; such as art projects, baking a “birthday cake” for their new sibling and engaging games to make this a special day to remember.

oregon homebirth sibling support

Having your children present for the birth of your baby is a beautiful and exciting opportunity for the whole family. Having a dedicated birth professional be present to guide your children and ensure a safe and positive environment can make all the difference.

A sibling doula will help your children understand what is happening during each stage, so they aren’t worried. They will provide support and ideas if they want to help mama such as bringing water, saying “good job” or providing a gentle hug. If the child(ren) become overwhelmed, she can offer comfort and take them to another space to rest or engage in a fun activity.

In addition to birth specific guidance, all children have ongoing needs throughout the day and night. Your sibling doula is there to help the partner as much as possible with basic support such as prepping meals, filling water cups, potty help, bedtime routines, etc. throughout the labor experience.

The specialists that are a part of Doulas of Oregon network cater to a wide variety of budgets. As independent providers, they each set their own rates. You tell us your ideal care needs and budget and we’ll match you to the perfect doula!

Yaaaay, the baby is here! Once your little one is back home, your sibling doula will offer 1-2 postpartum sessions. During this visit, she can help your children process the birth experience if they were present. She will answer any questions from you or the siblings about babies and the fourth trimester. Depending on their age, she will share some guidance on how to help care for the baby or help mama by getting her snacks or bringing over the diaper bag when needed.

Your sibling doula will always chat about how to nurture the big transition for your kids, what to expect and how you or your partner can help them integrate and adjust to the new addition in your family.
